THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS KINDLY SUPPLIED BY SALLY GUNTON WHOSE HUSBAND DAVID GUNTON WAS THE GRANDSON OF BEATRICE MAUD PICKFORD. - As per email dated 27th July 2009 I have finally solved the mystery of what happened to Job Pickford & Florence Bessie Bennett’s youngest child Florence Lilian Bessie after Florence’s death. From the 1911 census it was clear that the children were farmed out, although at the time of the census Clement William was at home with Job. Beatrice Maud (David’s Gran) was in the Keyford Home, Industrial School training to go into service. Stanley was staying with friends. Winifred Bessie was ‘adopted’ by her uncle Oliver Bennett & Catherine who had no children of their own. Florence Lilian Bessie who was just 2 days old when her mother died of influenza, was ‘adopted’ by her aunt Matilda Bennett & her husband George Ayres, Who already had 2 girls. Florence Lilian Bessie was using the surname of Ayres when she married to John Edmund Bartlett in 1933 in Frome. They had just one son, Michael Bartlett born 06 Sep 1935 Frome. He married Frances Ronaldine Elston in 1969 in Chipping Sodbury. The couple had no children. Michael died in Winterbourne in 2001 & last week I managed to make contact with Frances his widow who still lives there, but who had a stroke the week before.
